Divemedic replied to the topic Re: Diving the Grand Canyon... in the forums.Hooyah Baby!!!!
Looks like a great way to fly, though in flight service is kinda limited. I usually like a dark coffee while I’m working on my laptop during flights, and that landing looks a little rough. Okay, I pay extra for the carry-on but where do I store it. Getting though airport security might be a problem also, I’ll bet there are volatile liquids on that wing-thing that you gotta wear, and ever since DB Cooper I hear parachutes are considered suspicious luggage at airports. Still! I want one. I see the guy has a receding hairline, so it must be safe for older guys like me. Can I fly and dive the same day?

Divemedic replied to the topic Re: environmental degradation and risk to marine species and scuba diving worldwide in the forums.Hi Diane,
Your topic is one that certainly catches everyone’s attention. This is an area that is constantly in the news and one that should be of concern to all world leaders. I looked at your site and hope that you will present more of your ideas and observations here for people to read. It’s easy to go out and play in the wilderness but obviously it’s also important to try and keep it from being destroyed by our expanding needs as well.
Best of luck on your PhD candidacy as well, and don’t hesitate to try out your thoughts here; Oceanblue is probably a good deal less judgmental than your dissertation reviewers will be.

Divemedic replied to the topic Re: Individual Trauma Kit in the forums.Hello all,
I had some calls from a couple of people who wanted some more information on where to go for trauma training. So I’m adding two more schools that offer more generalized wilderness medical classes.

I was talking with Andrea over at Lifeguard Systems (I have taught with them from time to time) as was very disappointed to hear that only six people signed up for the rescue class and then one drop our due to an injury. Lifeguard Systems literally wrote the book on water rescue and even if you’ve had the class before recertifying is the only way to keep your skills up. A case in point a good friend of mine recently died from a cardiac arrest because no one at the conference she was attending remembered enough about CPR to apply it until the medics could arrived on scene. She was 57 and had a good chance at recovery if CPR had been applied while they were waiting for the ambulance. The medics were able to restart the heart but there was too much damage to the brain tissue due to a lack of even minimal circulation from CPR. Very tragic and probably preventable, she obviously had a strong heart muscle.
