T-shirts by John Ares
On November 11, 2010, NYC area photographer, past Oceanblue presenter and current club member John Ares launched a new division of his business by donating two Fine Art Photo T-Shirts as door prizes.
These Photo shirts were a Mandala like design depicting whirling Stone Crab Claws emblazoned over a giant lemon. Where was the drawn butter when you needed it? These were limited edition shirts with the new Oceanblue Divers logo. John is awarding a 15% discount to Oceanblue members that order shirts by using the Coupon Code: club at checkout.
John’s line features Photo shirts designed for SCUBA Divers, Ocean lovers, Nature enthusiasts and more. See all the 30+ designs at www.JohnAres.com.

Shark and Awe in the U.S. Senate
The U.S. Shark Conservation Act of 2009, a bill that offered a critical lifeline for sharks, has recently been blocked by a dysfunctional U.S. Senate. If not rapidly passed, the Act will have no purpose once sharks hit their impending point of no return. Resurrecting this legislation is urgently needed for both the preservation of sharks and our nation's fading conservation ethos.

There isn’t nothing that gets my topsail twisted worse than hearing all sorts of ignorance being spouted about what it is that goes on under the ocean. Perfect example is all these emails I’ve been getting about something I said in my last column for this newsletter. Without really thinking, I said something about how I like to “sit right down” on a coral reef to relax.
Let me set all your fragile sensibilities at ease. Of course I don’t just sit down on the coral. What would be the point? Wouldn’t really see anything during a whole dive of just sitting, would I?
